Every house is different, so every job is priced on its own — some at a set price, some by the hour. Text me a photo or a short description and I will tell you how I would charge and give you my best estimate. Materials and HST are extra. Not on the list? Ask. If I can do it right, I will tell you.

Accent walls

One wall. The whole room looks different.

An accent wall is the fastest way to make a plain room look finished — behind the bed, behind the TV, in the entrance or along the stairs. Most walls are done in one or two days, with the trim cut, filled, caulked and painted so it looks built in, not stuck on.

Home tips

What your house needs, and when

Simple checks for a New Brunswick house. Do them yourself — and if you don't have the time, I can do them for you.

Fall
Before the first freeze: 7 things to checkHalf an hour now saves a repair in January.
  • Disconnect and drain garden hoses.
  • Shut the indoor valve for each outside tap, then open the tap outside so the line drains.
  • Clean the gutters and make sure downspouts send water away from the foundation.
  • Check the weatherstrip on exterior doors — if you see daylight, it needs replacing.
  • Look for gaps around windows and doors and re-caulk where needed.
  • Test smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.
  • Walk the deck and stairs: loose boards and wobbly railings are worse under snow and ice.
No time before the snow? I can do the whole list in one visit.
Winter
How to keep pipes from freezingWhere pipes freeze first, and what to do about it.
  • Pipes freeze first on outside walls, in crawl spaces, garages and under sinks on exterior walls.
  • Wrap exposed pipes in unheated areas with foam pipe insulation.
  • Seal drafts near pipes — a small gap lets in a lot of cold air.
  • On very cold nights, open the cabinet doors under sinks on outside walls so warm air reaches the pipes.
  • Going away? Keep the heat on — don't turn it way down.
  • Know where your main water shut-off is before you need it.
  • If a pipe is frozen, never use an open flame to thaw it.
Want pipes insulated or drafts sealed? Send me a photo.
Spring
Deck check after the snowFive minutes with a screwdriver tells you a lot.
  • Push a screwdriver into boards, stair treads and posts. If it sinks in easily, the wood is soft or rotten.
  • Grab each railing post and push. It should not move.
  • Check the stairs: every tread solid, nothing loose or cracked.
  • Look where the deck meets the house — that is where water does the most damage.
  • Pour a little water on the boards. If it soaks in instead of beading, it is time to clean and re-stain or seal.
Found soft boards or a loose railing? Text me a photo and I'll take a look.
Summer
Why your door sticks in summerUsually it's not the door — it's the hinges.
  • Humid air makes wood swell, so a door that closed fine in winter can rub in July.
  • First, tighten every hinge screw. A sagging top hinge is the most common cause.
  • If a screw just spins, replace it with a longer screw that reaches the framing behind the jamb.
  • Look for shiny or worn spots to see exactly where it rubs.
  • Planing the door is the last step, not the first — and the cut edge must be sealed or painted after.
Questions

Before you call

How do you price a job?
It depends on the job. Small, clear jobs often get a set price. Bigger or less predictable work is billed by the hour. Materials are charged separately, because store prices change, and HST (15% in New Brunswick) is added. Either way, you know how I am charging before I start, and I tell you right away if something changes.
Are you insured?
Yes, I am insured. Ask me if you need details for your records.
Can I get an estimate without a visit?
Often I can give you a rough estimate from a photo and measurements. The final price can change once I see the job, or if materials cost more than expected.
Do you take small jobs?
Yes. A shelf, a door that won't latch, a hole in the drywall — small jobs are a big part of what I do. Have a list? I can do several in one visit.
How soon can you come?
Call before noon and most small jobs are done the same day. Larger jobs like decks and accent walls are booked on a date that works for you.
Which areas do you cover?
Moncton, Riverview, Dieppe and Shediac. Close by but not on the list? Ask — I will tell you honestly if I can make it.
